IGS attends World Mining Congress in Astana
IGS recently attended the World Mining Congress 2018 in Astana, Kazakhstan.
This event, held every 3-4 years, brings together personnel from the mining industry, as well as governmental representatives, geologists, engineers and other industry professionals to discuss and debate ongoing issues.
IGS also attended meetings with senior Kazakh governmental representatives including from the Committee of Subsoil Use and KazGeology, as well as Nazerbayev University. The meetings sought to progress discussions concerning the ongoing geoscience requirements of the Kazakh authorities within a ‘Geocluster’, or Competence Centre of Geology.
Commitments from the Committee were confirmed, and solutions discussed to support the financing of the Centre. Further progress is expected to be made later this year, with the work supported from the UK side by the Department of International Trade (DIT).
